Move over I’ll drive!
Sunday 7th May proved to be a big hit with the children of St Clare’s special school when they were invited to take the wheel of Toyota and Mini Cooper cars during a driving experience day funded by the Provincial Grand Charity of Derbyshire.
Twenty-eight pupils from the school attended the experience which commenced at 9.30 am. The fourteen to sixteen year-olds were taken out on a simulated road course set out on a large car park at the Royal Derby Hospital.
All of the pupils taking part actually controlled the cars themselves under expert guidance and tuition from professional driving instructors. Parents and carers also enjoyed the experience as passengers as their children negotiated the course.
The parents could not believe their eyes when seeing how their children were expertly driving, cornering, reversing and generally making a very good job of handling a motor car.
All who attended were extremely grateful and went away totally in awe of the experience.
