On Friday 30th June the Master of High Peak Lodge 1952, Bro Neil Tomlinson and his wife Alison were please to visit the headquarters of the Kinder Mountain Rescue Team (KMRT), in Hayfield, to present a donation of £250. They were given a tour of the site by Mike Potts, KMRT Press Officer, and both were very impressed with the facility.
The donation was supported by the Derbyshire Provincial Grand Charity who matched the amount with another £250. This added to the £200 previously raised by Alison and the wives, partners and friends of the Freemasons at a dinner last October.
The total of £700 will go towards funding much needed water rescue equipment as KMRT find themselves more and more involved in this activity.
As a result of the flooding in Cumbria and elsewhere in recent years we have seen, via the media, mountain rescue teams working alongside the other emergency services in water rescue. It has been standard practise for mountain rescue to routinely work in and around water when searching for missing persons but their usefulness in flood situations has now been recognised and therefore KMRT have an urgent need for better and more specialist equipment to improve their efficiency.
Kinder Mountain Rescue, as with all mountain rescue groups, are staffed by volunteers and survive solely on donations. In 2016 they were called out 48 times In 2017 they have been mobilised times, the first being on the 2nd January to assist Buxton & Edale mountain rescue with an injured walker on Mam Torr.
