On Tuesday 18th June at a special meeting of Padley Lodge, Derbyshire Freemasons held an open event where 17 non masons attended to learn about Freemasonry, what it means to be a Freemason and more especially what it means to be a Freemason in Bakewell. Until recently there were three Lodges meeting at Bakewell, Dorothy Vernon Lodge, Padley Lodge and Longshaw Lodge although Longshaw have now moved back to the Maynard Arms Hotel in Grindleford which was their original venue when the Lodge was formed. Members of all three Lodges were on attend to explain a little of their history and their connection to the local area.
The Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master Arthur Steven Varley attended and was accompanied by the Assistant Provincial Grand Master Ian Copestake and the Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies Ravi Kumar Sahnan.
The visitors were well informed and a most enjoyable meal followed at the Rutland Arms Hotel – the atmosphere was excellent and a number of the visitors expressed great interest in joining – a wonderful evening of Freemasonry and we look forward to seeing our Lodges in Bakewell and the Hope Valley prospering in the coming months and years.
