2018 marks the centenary of Armistice day when on the 11th hour of the 11th day of November 1918 hostilities ceased and World War 1 effectively ended. The Provincial Grand Lodge of Derbyshire Freemasons is marking this important year with a number of events throughout the Province to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom we enjoy today an all wars and conflicts.
On Thursday 18th October, the Provincial Grand Master for Derbyshire presented a cheque for £500 to the Crich war memorial. It was received by Capt Benedict Griffiths, the Regimental Adjutant of The Mercian Regiment. The funds will contribute to the ongoing maintenance of the gardens and buildings. The Crich Memorial is a landmark high on the hills outside of Matlock and is open to the public, more information is available on their website here
In 2019, the Freemasons of Derbyshire will be constructing a memorial garden which will no doubt be enjoyed by staff and visitors alike.
